To celebrate the spirit of generosity and collective community impact, members of the TUW Tocqueville Society gathered downtown at the home of Bob and Christina Brinkman on March 12, 2026. During the event, we were proud to honor Scott and Valerie Howell with the Spirit of de Tocqueville Award, recognizing their advocacy, leadership, generosity and deep personal commitment to our community. Thank you, Scott and Valerie, for your extraordinary spirit of service and for helping shape a stronger, more vibrant, and more compassionate Tri‑County community. Thank you to local historian Brian Maloney for sharing a piece of our city’s history with guests during the evening. We are deeply grateful to the Brinkmans for graciously opening their home, and to Christina Brinkman for generously gifting one of her beautiful sculptures for the Spirit of de Tocqueville Award.

Attendees then had the chance to connect over chilli and cornbread while enjoying live music (with a guest appearance!). A huge thank you to Navy Yard Charleston for providing the opportunity to gather and learn more about this exciting restoration project, and thank you to all who attended for your continued generous support of Trident United Way!
